How to apply

We have an average of 10 fully funded scholarships per annum. A minimum of 6 of them are reserved for UK Nationals or EU Nationals who have studied for three years in the UK. Full student eligibility information can be found on the EPSRC website (  The remaining scholarships can cover EU Nationals.

Overseas / Non-EU applicants are not eligible to apply for funding from the Graphene Technology CDT, but can still join the programme if recipient of external scholarships covering the full costs.

We welcome applications from students with background in chemistry, physics, materials science, chemical engineering, nanotechnology and engineering. The Graphene Technology CDT offers opportunities to carry out PhD projects in the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science and Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Engineering. The PhD degree will be granted from the Department where the research project is carried out.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis with 3 rounds of application deadlines. The first round closes on 30th January 2018, the next round on 30th April 2018 and the final round of admissions closes on 30th June 2018. Early application is strongly encouraged as places are limited.

All supporting documents, including references and academic transcripts, must be submitted through GRADSAF before you can be considered for shortlisting/interview. The interviews will be ongoing.  Please email  to inform us once you have submitted your application.
